Mary Boykin Chesnut writes of her mother-in-law, Mary Cox Chestnut, “When anyone here transgresses some plain rule of good breeding, her mild rebuke is, ‘Ah, you were not brought up at Bloomsbury.” 30 November 1861, The Civil War Diaries of Mary Chesnut”
Welcome to Bloomsbury!
No doubt you are here for a reason…
…invest in yourself.
…upgrade your skills and presentation.
…increase your protocol and etiquette intelligence.
It is often commented that while American society has made tremendous technological progress, she has somehow lost the sense of civility. Manners do count…etiquette is observed…and protocol is still followed by our society. Only those without knowledge or training scoff at following the simple rules of behavior that are expected in polite society.
“Rudeness is the weak man’s imitation of strength.”
Eric Hoffer, The Passionate State of Mind (1954)
In our personal experience we have witnessed promotions lost, jobs denied, and support for a great cause vanish because of an individual’s inability to easily engage in an everyday setting. In each case, the individual never knew that it was because of a specific action or lack thereof, that they failed to achieve their goal. Seldom does anyone cross the boundaries of etiquette on purpose; and, there are few reasons for one to loose a job opportunity, close a business deal, or not gain support for a worthy cause.
Training is the answer.
The Bloomsbury Protocol Institute was created to fill this knowledge void. Very personalized classes are designed for individuals or groups. Our programs can also be tailored for a family who wishes to immerse themselves in the world of proper etiquette and protocol, for senior executives who desire to improve powerful personal skills, or for individuals who desire to learn the fine art of introductions. With a maximum of eight to a class, Bloomsbury offers a fun way to learn and practice the art of civility. Larger group seminars are offered in the Bloomsbury training facility or on-site as the business desires.
A sample immersion program might include the class arrival on Thursday afternoon, starting with a social hour and the class’s first lesson in introductions and the art of mingling, then an informal dinner. The next two days would include twelve hours of seminar instruction, two social periods, three breakfasts and one seven-course dinner. Interspersed will be the “Oh no! What do I do now?” question and answer periods. On Sunday morning the class will close with the presentation of certificates shortly after breakfast.
In today’s environment when decisions are made on the slightest differentiation, knowledge of proper etiquette and protocol is a must! Bloomsbury offers you the opportunity to address a serious subject, yet laugh as you learn. Come to Bloomsbury…as Mary Chesnut wrote… “Bloomsbury….home again.”
“Nothing seems at first sight less important than the outward form of human actions, yet there is nothing upon which men set more store.”
Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America (1835-1839)
